KDSI is not your typical “dot-com,” which is probably why we are still alive and well long after many others have folded or were bought out. Our roots are deep and our story is unique. Here’s how it goes:
Back in early 1995, Kelly Supply Company, a long-time wholesale distributor of industrial products, explored this thing called “the Internet” and what role it could play for the company.
The idea was to put modems in each of the twelve Kelly Supply Company branch facilities and offer Internet to Kelly Supply Company customers. If there were 50 customers in each branch community that would bite off on this idea, the data communication costs for the existing company wide-area network could be significantly reduced, if not eliminated. Not to mention that having a web site for Kelly Supply Company would certainly draw customers to do things on-line rather than making a phone call. This idea went from conversation to reality in just a few short months.
In November of 1995, Grand Island, Nebraska, became the first branch community launched. There were nearly 300 Internet customers in Grand Island after just six months. The other branch communities were brought up over the course of the next 2-3 months with similar success. As a matter of fact, KDSI was the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) to provide dial-up access in many these branch communities.
Business boomed in 1996 and KDSI officially became a corporation in 1997. From that point on, KDSI has grown to be a solid competitor among ISP’s. With our regional scope, we can provide the local appeal not found with the national providers. Not to mention, our Midwest heritage provides a home-town approach to customer service and support.
Today, KDSI offers a full range of services from dial-up to DSL, wireless, and point-to-point T1’s. In addition, our staff can tackle the toughest network or security issues and offer solutions to eliminate risk. We also provide web site design and hosting, as well as customized business solutions for email.
We are continuously looking for ways to enhance the Internet experience and we welcome feedback from our most prized asset—our loyal customers!
